Questions
Will the workshops show up in my TEACH account?
Yes. NYSED doesn't accept certificates of completion for these workshops, so approved providers report completions electronically. When you finish, enter your details in the last lesson exactly as they appear in your TEACH account, and we report your completion. It appears in your TEACH account within about a week.
I'm a nurse, social worker, dentist or other licensed professional. Does the Child Abuse course count for my license?
Yes, if your profession is on NYSED's list: physicians, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, dentists, dental hygienists, chiropractors, optometrists, podiatrists, psychologists, licensed master and clinical social workers, mental health counselors, marriage and family therapists, creative arts therapists, psychoanalysts, licensed behavior analysts, certified behavior analyst assistants and athletic trainers.
Within 10 days of finishing, we issue two copies of NYSED's Certification of Completion. You upload it to NYSED's Office of the Professions with your license application or re-registration. Read NYSED's requirement.
Does my nonpublic school or bus company need this?
Yes. NYSED requires Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse for religious and independent school staff, and for school bus drivers and supervisors, including contractor drivers. For nonpublic schools, the fees are eligible for reimbursement under the Nonpublic School Safety Equipment (NPSE) grant. Read NYSED's guidance for nonpublic schools.
I already took Child Abuse training. Do I need the update?
NYSED requires every mandated reporter to complete the updated training by November 17, 2026. If you trained before November 1, 2022, never took an updated version, or your original provider doesn't offer the short addendum, take this full course. If you finished an approved course between November 1, 2022 and August 31, 2025, you may only need a 15-minute addendum, and it has to come from that same provider. If you took it on or after September 1, 2025, you're already up to date.
Do I need all three?
For any New York State educator certificate, yes. NYSED requires DASA, Child Abuse Identification and School Violence Prevention. Licensed health professionals, nonpublic school staff who aren't seeking certification, and bus drivers need only Child Abuse Identification.
If you're seeking a Students with Disabilities, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Blind and Visually Impaired, or Speech and Language Disabilities certificate, you also need the separate Needs of Students with Autism workshop, which isn't offered here. See NYSED's list of required workshops.
Do I need a TEACH account first?
Educators need one for us to report the completion. If you don't have one yet, create it through NYSED's TEACH Online Services before you reach the last lesson. Licensed professionals don't need a TEACH account.
Can I take one workshop now and the others later?
Yes. Each workshop is sold on its own. If you'll need all three, the bundle costs $55 less than buying them one at a time.
Can I stop partway and come back?
Yes. The workshops are self-paced and your progress saves when you leave. Sign in any time to pick up where you stopped.
Can I do this on my phone?
Yes. The course site works on phones, tablets and computers.
